Codes and conventions

I found this informaiton on the internet and I felt that it gave a clear outline of the conventions used. I will make reference to these terms when I study trailers.

Trailer terminology

A trailer is what film producers use when they want to give the audience an idea of what an upcoming film is going to be like. These trailers are used to give an insight to the film and to keep the viewers guessing; also, viewers will want to know what happens next and will want to go and see the film. These are known as normal trailers but there is another type of trailer and these are known as teaser trailers - these trailers are very short and they do not give out much information to the viewers. The purpose of these trailers is to let viewers know that the next film is coming but you have to guess what is going to happen.

An example of general trailer would be this one which is advertising Batman: The Dark Knight; http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2313552153/

An example of a teaser trailer would be this one which is also advertising The Dark Knight; http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi324468761/

Semiotics

This theory was created by Ferdinand de Saussure; this is where the human brain reacts to three different aspects: the Sign, Signifier and Signified.

For example; Sun  -  Cheery music  - Happiness
                    Sign -  Signifier         - Signified

This theory is important to be remembered for when I am designing my music magazine because it shows that slightly different aspects of life reflect on different meanings. Seeing as my magazine is based upon the genre of House music, I will ensure the colours are related to disco-like scenes to involve the reader and make the magazine a little more interactive and less boring than general colours such as black and white.

Mood Board

This mood board consists of my favourite artists which fall into the category of hose music; Swedish House Mafia, Diplo, Calvin Harris, Tim Berg, Deadmau5, Justice, Daft Punk, Wolfgang Gartner, Magnetic Man, David Guetta and Dada Life. I think that a new magazine should be brought into the market which includes all of these artists and more of their genre, as there are only a few which do this at the moment.

School magazine mock-up contents page

This is a mock up of what the contents page of my school magazine will look like. This contents page consists of a title, a logo, a list of contents with a brief explanation of what is going to be under each page so that it looks more interactive, a main article separated from the other artciles and an image which relates to the main article.

School Magazine cover

This is what my school magazine is going to be like. This includes a masthead, a logo, contents to draw viewers to the magazine, a puff, and headings. I have used semiotics to ensure my front cover is to it's best ability; I decided to use red for some of the text because this is attracts the human eye
and also becuase it is in the school's logo.

This is a mock up of a magazine for a college which i created on Publisher. I have used the following features to ensure my front cover is the best of its ability; Masthead, Sell line, Image, Main Headline, Headline, Advertisement, Barcode with the Price and a Puff. These features will allow me to achieve the best grade possible because they are features which most successful magazines use to attract viewers.

Deadmau5

This is an extract image of Deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman). He is a well known DJ who has made a name for himself throughout his genre, Electro House. This is the genre which I am hoping to show as I create my music magazine, and this is because it is a genre which I take an interest in and like to spend time listening to this type of music.

Introduction to my AS

For my media studies coursework, I have been asked to create a Music magazine which consists of a contents page, a double spread page on an artist of my choice. I will practice using the technology available for me to use so I can achieve the best grade possible. My first task is to produce a front page of a college magazine and a mock up of a contents page.
In addition, I will be completing my organisation tasks which are; a mood board, a production schedule, venue release forms and risk assessments.
I will also draft a front page, a contents page, double page spread. I will be practicing using Photoshop and shots with a camera.
